I hope everyone interested in participating in the starting of a Neighborhood Watch Program will attend the organizational meeting to be held, Thursday, April 22nd, at 7 PM, at Heritage Hall, 111 Taylor St. in Merkel. Working to help to set up the program in Merkel will be Police Chief Bob Jones, Taylor County Deputy Sheriff Matt Young, and Chatty and Charles Cass, and the Merkel Chamber of Commerce. . Programs such as this have been set up all over the country to help combat the war on crime and drugs. If you or interested in participating in a Neighborhood Watch program in your neighborhood you are urged to attend this meeting. Two signs have already been purchased and will be posted designating Merkel to have a neighborhood watch program, so if you come looking to do something your not suppose to be doing you might move on down the road a piece, cause we don't want you here. For information you may contact Chatty Cass, 928-1022m the Merkel Chamber of Commerce in the mornings at 928-5722 or e-mail at chamber@merkeltx.com.

On Monday night the 10 o'clock news had a story that caught my attention, a public hearing on tax abatement for prospective wind farm. I was at the office much earlier than usual and on the phone trying to find out who, what, and more details. I know the place was the Taylor County Commissioners court at 1:30. After a few phone calls, I knew Merkel would have representation attending. The economic boost to our school district could be a much needed shot in the arm, or I should say budget. Merkel was well represented not only by land owners from that area, but by Bill Hood and Gaylon Brnovak with MISD; City Manager Cloy Richards; Councilman and Chamber President Charles and Chatty Cass; EDC and Chamber Board member Benny Williams; Barbara and Bill Fowler, and myself. After the presentation of Sea West, Mike Ezako, the audience could endorsements, or give negative comments on a tax abatement. Many went to the podium to urge the commissioners court to give a tax abatement. Only one negative comment was given, and as I listened, I chuckled at how little knowledge this gentleman knew about wind turbines. Soon as he made his comments he quickly left the court, not asking any questions or seeking knowledge that could have changed his mind. After the meeting I found out, he was not even near the area, maybe it was because he was not getting any of these marvelous giants that turn so gentle and provide the modern things we take for granted like turning on the lights, heating and cooling our homes. I hope citizens of the county will contact their commissioners and urge the support of the wind project. I would hate to see Taylor County loose out on something that in the long run would be very beneficial to not only the county, but for local businesses such as motels, restaurants, lumber companies, parts stores, as well as employee people. The economic boost can help everyone one way or another

Butler Heating and Air Conditioning, located at 1208 N. 2nd opened their business 3 1/2 years ago. Owners Brad and Amye Butler strive to provide a service of dependable, reasonable and honest work. Brad and Amye sell and service air conditioning, heating and refrigerator systems. They believe routine maintenance rather than fix-it-later. They offer full service maintenance programs for a set fee per month and they maintain your equipment or repair it. A full service sheet metal shop can build ducts for any project. Butler's specialize in Ruud, but will get any brand you desire. Brad and Amye also own The Last Detail shop located in the same complex at Butler Heating and Air Conditioning. The same quality of service on oil change, outside car wash to a complete detail, and size doesn't matter, from the small car to a motor home, they aim to please. Brad came to Texas on the wheat harvest from Ashland KS, liked it here, got his degree and taught for 5 years, and was a former MISD board member. He married Amye Amerine, A MISD graduate
